St. Vincent Hospital Master Plan & Implementation
Santa Fe, New Mexico

For over ten years, The Design Group team has worked with St. Vincent Regional Medical Center (SVRMC) in creating, updating, and implementing their Master Plan. The SVRMC Master Plan is conceived as a flexible planning tool, with periodic updates to address the evolving strategic goals of the healthcare center. Specific projects include the Emergency Department (ED) Expansion, Surgery Remodel, Inpatient Units, hospital departments, public areas and site improvements; as well as outpatient and ancillary services areas.

The ED project encompassed a 22,000 square foot addition and approximately 10,000 square feet of renovation area to the existing ED. The project included two resuscitation trauma rooms, thirty-six exam rooms, enhanced decontamination and isolation facilities, dedicated mental health rooms, a specific pediatric care area and waiting and exam rooms.

A centralized nurse core provides unobstructed nurse-to-patient visual access and includes overhead skylights to provide natural light and bring warmth into the potentially stressful environment. The interior design elements are designed to de-institutionalize the spaces and create a healing environment.

The project also included a new campus main entry and emergency drop-off, which dramatically improves campus circulation and way-finding. The SVRMC ED project was completed in several stages, in order to keep the facility in continuous operation.
