Albuquerque Housing Authority Broadway/McKnight—Albuquerque, NM

The 52-unit Broadway/McKnight housing project exemplifies community resilience by providing healthy, dignified homes for residents of the historic Santa Barbara-Martineztown neighborhood. It strengthens and integrates the urban fabric while creating its own unique regional, modern place. The project draws inspiration from the surrounding homes. An interactive community engagement process led to a design that thoughtfully reflects its context through building shapes reflecting the architectural forms and scale of the area. Stucco, metal, and corrugated roofs complement the rich character of its surroundings. A blend of duplexes and townhomes aligns the project with the existing urban fabric of its community, complimenting the neighborhood’s scale. Broadway/McKnight embraces its neighborhood by facing outward towards the existing homes. This intentional orientation is a stark contrast to the introverted apartments it replaced. Every design choice was made intentionally to enhance the quality of life of residents and strengthen their connection with their neighborhood.
